The protesters demand to preserve the independence of the public-law media.

Thousands of activists in 12 cities of the Czech Republic are taking part in protests against the plans of the government of the republic to change the system of financing of public TV channels and radio stations. This is reported by ČTK.

The publication notes that the actions are taking place in cities - administrative centers of the republic's provinces. In the southeast of the Czech Republic, three thousand activists took to the streets in Brno, and in Prague - the rally was held on May 5.

The protesters criticize the government of the country and demand to preserve the independence of public media.

The legislative bill of the Czech Cabinet of Ministers suggests a transition from direct financing of the media through the contributions of citizens to the allocation of funds from the state budget. According to the organizers of the protests, this could lead to a significant restriction of the activities of the public-law media and deprive them of their independence from the authorities.
