Work is underway to increase the number and operational capabilities of U.S. troops in the country.
Polish Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz said that the number of US soldiers on Polish territory is not decreasing.
He said this at a press conference in the Sejm, PAP reports.
He added that the reorganization of US armed forces may affect the locations of their deployment in Europe, but these changes do not mean a reduction of the contingent in Poland.
"The number of US military in Poland is not decreasing. We are working to both increase the number and operational capabilities of U.S. troops stationed in Poland," the defense secretary stressed Thursday.
The reorganization, which is a consequence of U.S. President Donald Trump's announced withdrawal of some 5,000 U.S. troops from Germany, could lead to the assignment of other brigades to individual countries, he said. He said this could be what caused "the confusion that one of the articles published in the US press yesterday caused."
A number of US media outlets reported that the Pentagon had abruptly canceled the deployment of an armored brigade to Poland.
Earlier this month, the brigade held a ceremony at Fort Hood, Texas, where it is based, to announce its future deployment.
Poland had previously expressed a willingness to accept those military personnel the US was withdrawing from Germany.
