Slovakia Unexpectedly Says It Will Supply Ukraine With More Ammunition

The country has become a major producer of munitions within NATO.

Slovakia supplies ammunition to Ukraine in "million-dollar" volumes, and this number will continue to grow in the future. This was stated by the country's president Peter Pellegrini after a meeting of representatives of the Bucharest Nine, writes Teraz.

He said Slovakia is actively investing in arms production, and the military-industrial complex now accounts for almost 3% of the country's GDP. Because of this, Pellegrini said, Slovakia has become a major producer of ammunition within NATO.

He said the country is commercially supplying ammunition to Ukraine in "millions" of dollars, and "this number will continue to grow in the future." He also described Ukraine as the country with the best knowledge of modern warfare. He said Kiev could offer its developments and experience to neighboring countries, including Slovakia.

Pellegrini also said that NATO is and will remain united despite the fact that there are tensions between member countries and the United States.

"Of course, there is a need to strengthen the European pillar within NATO, not as a separate entity, but to strengthen defense responsibilities and to strengthen our ability to defend ourselves within NATO. Which, of course, is also linked to the need to increase defense spending," he said."

"There is also a need to increase defense spending," he said.
