The EU's task is to continue to strengthen Ukraine.
The Kremlin's latest statements about readiness for the negotiation process are an element of information manipulation and a continuation of hybrid warfare, which is confirmed by the violation of the declared three-day "ceasefire". German Federal Minister of Defense Boris Pistorius said this at a press conference in Kiev following a meeting with Ukrainian Defense Minister Mikhail Fedorov, "Ukrinform" reported.
"Vladimir Putin is now saying again that the war in Ukraine is supposedly nearing its end. The conscious observer immediately has a question: if he sees the end of the war approaching, he could have just ended it. Then he himself would hold this moment in his hands," he said.
At the same time, according to the minister, the Kremlin continues to act according to the old scheme, putting forward its own conditions.
"It is putting forward conditions, as it always does. I hope I am wrong in thinking this is another attempt at deception, but we cannot rule it out, and it seems to be part of his hybrid warfare," the German Defense Minister said.
Pistorius emphasized that during previous negotiation processes, Putin repeatedly violated agreements.
"Every time it came to negotiating a ceasefire or peace, he ended up playing with shuffled cards or behaving in a way that was not at all what was agreed or stated during the negotiations," he said.
The German minister emphasized that ending the war is entirely up to the Kremlin:
"The truth is - and I will not tire of repeating this - that if Vladimir Putin wants to end his war of aggression against Ukraine, he can do so very simply: simply withdraw his troops or invite concrete negotiations without preconditions."
He also drew attention to Russia's violation of its own declared "three-day ceasefire." "Even the alleged three-day truce for the weekend was violated again. And it is Putin's responsibility to stop this war and terror - which is exactly terror, especially given the Ukrainian civilian population," the minister emphasized.
Pistorius assessed that the Kremlin's current rhetoric is linked to Russia's military problems.
"I think Putin, with his current actions, wants to divert attention from his own weakness. Right now he can hardly demonstrate any territorial gains. His army is constantly losing parts of already captured territories. That is why Putin is still bluffing and cunning in public," the German Defense Minister said.
In this regard, he said, allies should continue to strengthen Ukraine:
"Our task as partners of Ukraine is to continue to strengthen it militarily. On the one hand, to ensure that Ukraine has a strong negotiating position at X moment, and on the other hand, to show that this country is capable of successfully defending itself."
