ISW: Russians Use AI Video To Lie About Their Victories

Russia is increasingly using videos created with the help of artificial intelligence to demonstrate the alleged successes of its troops on the frontline in Ukraine. This is told in a new report by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

According to analysts, since the summer of 2025, Russian units have begun to use infiltration tactics more frequently, and with this, videos of Russian flags being planted in areas where the Russian army has allegedly failed to gain a foothold have started to appear regularly in the information space.

The ISW notes that since the winter of 2025 such materials have become noticeably more complex: instead of short fragments, higher quality and more detailed videos shot in different locations have been published.

The experts believe that the increasing technical level of these videos and the use of artificial intelligence technologies may indicate a centralized information campaign coordinated by the Russian military leadership.

The analysts also note that a significant part of such materials appeared on the eve of May 9, which is probably due to an attempt to compensate for the lack of notable successes of the Russian army at the front.
