Washington's harsh statements about Havana have increased markedly.
There has been a sharp increase in the number of reconnaissance flights by the U.S. military off the coast of Cuba, CNN reported, citing open-source data.
According to FlightRadar24, since February 4, the U.S. Navy and Air Force have conducted at least 25 such flights using aircraft and drones, most of which took place near the country's two largest cities, Havana and Santiago de Cuba.
The journalists note that the flights were carried out by maritime patrol aircraft designed for surveillance and reconnaissance, as well as aircraft specializing in gathering electronic intelligence. In addition, the U.S. military engaged high-speed reconnaissance drones.
U.S. President Donald Trump's harsh statements on Cuba escalated markedly in the weeks before the escalation began, and the U.S. leader subsequently ordered an oil embargo on the island.
