An installation with 20,000 teddy bears symbolizing Ukrainian children kidnapped by Russia during the aggressor's full-scale invasion has appeared on the U.S. National Walkway in Washington, D.C.

This was reported by Charter97.org, citing a post at Facebook of Ukraine's ambassador to the United States Olga Stefanishina.

Each of the teddy bears in downtown Washington symbolizes a Ukrainian child who was forcibly deported from Ukraine's occupied territories by Russia.

The installation was formed of white and red toys, the latter were laid out with the inscription - Putin Abducted 20,000 ukrainian children, which translates as "Putin abducted 20,000 Ukrainian children".

The event dedicated to the installation was addressed by Ukraine's ambassador to the United States Olga Stefanyshina, and the alley was also visited by concerned Ukrainians and other residents of the American capital.

A number of U.S. politicians were also seen near the installation - for example, Democratic Senator Amy Klobuchar, who corrected a toy on the installation; Congressman Michael McCaul, Senator Richard Blumenthal and others.

"20,000 bears on the National Mall near Congress in downtown Washington, D.C. - each symbolizing a Ukrainian child that Russia has kidnapped since the start of the full-scale invasion," Stefanyshyn wrote.

The diplomat added that Ukraine has so far returned more than 2,000 children through the president's Bring Kids Back UA initiative, but thousands remain separated from their families and homes.

"Without the return of Ukrainian children, there can be neither an end to the war nor a lasting just peace .... Russia and its leadership must be under tough sanctions to feel the real consequences of their crimes on a daily basis," added Ukraine's ambassador to the United States.
