Local authorities are inactive.
Residents of the village of Boriskino in the Chishminsky district of Bashkortostan have written a letter to the Pope asking for help in repairing a broken road due to inaction by local authorities, reports The Moscow Times.
"We have appealed everywhere: to the republic's control center, directly to [district head] Rishat Anisovich [Mansurov], but we have had no results - only excuses. The road is in a ruined state... For 10 years no repair works have been carried out in the village and in the direction to it. We are tired of promises and daily car breakdowns," said one of the signatories.
The residents noted that cars regularly get stuck in the mud on this road, the passage of ambulances becomes impossible, and the school bus risks falling into a ravine. According to them, there is also "partial lack of lighting" in the village, and earlier a well was broken, which they repaired themselves at their own expense. "The district does not provide us with any support. Moreover, the head of the district has been with us for 6 years. During this time, he has never once come to the village and looked at the problems," complained the residents. They added that "all hope remains only in the Pope".
Boriskino is located 18 km from the nearest railway station Yumatovo and 41 km from the district center Chishmy. About 100 people live in the village.
This is not the first case of appealing to the Pope in Bashkortostan. In 2019, shareholders of the Ufa housing estate "Limonarium" also wrote to the pontiff after the developer suggested that they "complain at least to the Pope." After the publicity, the story received a wide resonance, and the construction of the houses was eventually completed.
