Details of the PACE session became known.
A special tribunal for Putin, a register of damages and the fate of frozen assets of the Russian Federation are the main topics of discussion at the Council of Europe. The 46 members, led by the Ukrainian delegation, have already started work. Details will be told by FREEDOM TV channel correspondent Oleh Borisov, who works in Strasbourg.
Reminder, the main theses and main topics of discussion and work this working week in the Council of Europe are a special tribunal against Putin for his aggressive actions against Ukraine. It is a register of damages and compensation to Ukrainians for the damage that Putin caused to Ukraine. These three cases are now being worked on in the Council of Europe.
What is worth emphasizing is, of course, the special tribunal. Because now there is a very big preparatory work for the next stage in this direction. Why is it being done so hard and long? Because the legal system requires very thorough preparation for absolutely every cluster. And what is important is financing. We need guarantees that countries will finance a special tribunal against Putin. Now, according to the Secretary General of the Council of Europe Alan Burse, there are already 19 European countries, and the 20th is Costa Rica, not a member of the Council of Europe. And this is a very important signal that even outside Europe, countries want to bring the aggressor to justice. All in order that such did not repeat again.
Exclusively for FREEDOM recorded an interview with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe Alan Berce, where he voiced important theses. In one of his answers, he said that, in addition to the special tribunal, seizure of losses and frozen assets of the Russian Federation, global work is being done at the level of all 46 members of the Council of Europe, so that the focus of attention from Ukraine does not shift even to the situation in the Middle East.
- I think now we are facing a rather difficult situation, with huge instability in the world. The situation is terrible in some other countries as well. But the most important thing for us is to always put Ukraine and support for Ukraine at the top of our priorities. It is our top and most important priority, and it will continue to be. And we know that we will take time. We cannot see this as a short-term job. We want a long-term partnership. And I think all this instability is not conducive to ending the war in Ukraine. That's the first factor. You mentioned sanctions. Our work for Ukraine certainly doesn't lie in sanctions. We are focused on ensuring accountability for what has been done. That's what should be paramount. And I think this vector of our work also helps to maintain the hope that a ceasefire will soon be possible," said the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alan Berset.
This Wednesday and Thursday we are expecting a big debate on the special tribunal against Putin, against the aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.
The position of all 46 members of the Council of Europe will be voiced at this debate. And a common position will be formed in the Council of Europe, which is very important for other institutions of the European Union, and not only the European Union, and other European countries.
And, of course, for the early establishment of a special tribunal, so that it would work in the Netherlands, so that it would be stably financed. And so that the case of bringing Putin to justice for his unprovoked war against Ukraine is by no means forgotten, but only approaching its completion. And completion is bringing Putin to justice.
