Magyar Held Talks With Fitzo And Put Forward Slovakia's Condition
Peter Magyar

The Hungarian opposition leader gave Fitzo an ultimatum.

Hungary's future prime minister Peter Magyar has held a telephone conversation with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fitzo, during which he voiced the main condition for further political dialog.

- I just had a telephone conversation with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fitzo. I made it clear to him that we can only discuss any political issue if there is a guarantee that Slovakia will repeal the law that threatens Hungarians in the Highlands with imprisonment and if it is fixed that in the future the lands of our Hungarian compatriots in the Highlands will not be confiscated on the basis of Benes decrees on the basis of collective guilt," Magyar said on Facebook.

He also emphasized that the future Tisza party government is ready to work on improving relations between the countries.

"I confirmed to the Slovak prime minister that the Tisza government will work to strengthen Hungarian-Slovak relations and restore Visegrad cooperation, but all of this must be preceded by clarification and settlement of the aforementioned issues," the opposition leader said.

Magyar told Fico that the most important priority for the current Hungarian government in Slovak-Hungarian relations is to protect the rights of our Hungarian compatriots.

The politician said the two sides agreed to continue talks during a face-to-face meeting at the next European Council summit in Brussels.
