Orthodox Christians Of Belarus Commemorate Their Ancestors

Today is Radunitsa.

Today, April 21, in Belarus, Orthodox believers celebrate Radunitsa - the day of remembrance of the deceased, which falls on the ninth day after Easter. The country has declared an official day off.

The churches hold services, during which funeral prayers are heard for the first time after Easter. Believers submit notes with the names of the deceased, put candles for their repose and bring food for the eve.

A special importance on this day is attached to visiting cemeteries.

"The main thing in such a visit is prayer and spiritual communication with the deceased, and everything unnecessary, distracting from the remembrance, should be excluded. It is through prayer that a person turns to God and through him - to his loved ones," noted on the website of the Belarusian Orthodox Church.

Traditionally, a memorial meal is also organized at home.
