Iran Announced The Closure Of The Strait Of Hormuz

And accused the U.S. of violating the agreements.

Iran's theocratic dictatorial regime has announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. Also, Tehran again accused the United States of "violation of agreements," writes OBOZ.UA.

A new series of "military control" in the strait was announced by the representative of the Central Headquarters of the Iranian police Khatam al-Anbia. Iran's Today reported this on social network X.

Iran's new aggravation

The Iranian military, controlled by IRGC militants, said that as of April 18, transit through the Strait of Hormuz had returned to its previous state of strict military control. It also cited "repeated US violations and piracy under the guise of blockade."

Iranian regime officials have threatened to keep this important waterway under their control until the US ends its blockade of Iranian ports.

"As long as the United States does not end restrictions on the free movement of ships traveling from Iran to destinations and from other places to Iran, the situation in the Strait of Hormuz will remain under strict control and unchanged from its previous status," the Iranian military said.

As Bloomberg reported, Greek and Indian tankers turned around in front of the Strait of Hormuz on the morning of April 18 amid a renewed Iranian blockade. The six tankers were carrying about 8.3 million barrels of oil, and their successful transits would have meant the highest flows of oil from the gulf in a single day since the war began.

The suspended voyages of five Greek and Indian tankers provide the first glimpse of how the energy artery is being navigated after Iran's foreign minister said it was fully open.

An important artery for global shipping

The Strait of Hormuz is the world's energy bottleneck. About 20-25% of all oil consumed in the world passes through it. Any announcement of "strict military control" or blockage instantly triggers a reaction in world markets.

As of April 18, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps actually controls security in the area and often uses the threat of blocking the strait as a tool to pressure the West. Rhetoric about "piracy under the guise of blockade" is usually Tehran's response to sanctions or the detention of tankers carrying Iranian oil.
