The U.S. military said no ship has been able to pass through the U.S. blockade of Iran's ports and coastal zones, and six merchant ships have complied with orders to turn back.
According to Reuters.
The U.S. military said the blockade, which began on Monday, would only apply to ships traveling to or from Iran, including all Iranian ports in the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman.
"During the first 24 hours, no ships broke the United States blockade, and six merchant ships complied with U.S. forces' instructions to turn around to re-enter an Iranian port in the Gulf of Oman," U.S. Central Command said in a statement.
It also noted that more than 10,000 military personnel were involved in enforcing the blockade. military personnel, more than a dozen warships and dozens of aircraft.
"The blockade is enforced impartially against vessels from all countries that enter or leave Iranian ports and coastal areas," Central Command added.
A U.S. official told Reuters that efforts to enforce the blockade in the Strait of Hormuz would not fall on the U.S. Coast Guard, at least for now.
He said this was partly because six Coast Guard vessels that were stationed in the Middle East were sent to Asia at the start of the war.
Contrary to U.S. military claims that no ships have been able to pass through the blockade, Bloomberg reported that one tanker, which is under U.S. sanctions and linked to China, did make it out of the Strait of Hormuz to the Gulf of Oman.
It is unclear, however, whether it entered Iranian ports before transiting and has cargo on board.
