The head of the European Commission and Hungary's new leader talked about "urgent priorities".
European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen discussed "urgent priorities" with Hungary's newly elected prime minister Peter Magyar. She made the announcement on April 14 on social network X.
Magyar's Tisza party won the April 12 parliamentary elections, beating the Fidesz party of incumbent Prime Minister Viktor Orban, known for his pro-Russian views.
Von der Leyen noted that now "Hungary has returned to the heart of Europe, where it has always belonged." She emphasized that above all this is an important moment for the Hungarian people and "their voice, dignity and future in a secure, successful Hungary within a strong Europe."
"We discussed urgent priorities. Must work swiftly to rebuild, reorient and reform. Restore the rule of law. Reorient ourselves to our shared European values. And carry out reforms to open up the opportunities that European investment offers," the EC chief wrote.
