Media Reports: Lieutenant Colonel Of The Russian Aerospace Forces' 6th Leningrad Army Killed In An Explosion

This unit has been engaged in combat operations against Ukraine since the very first days of the war.

On Thursday, August 27, an explosion rocked St. Petersburg, killing a lieutenant colonel 6th Leningrad Army of the Russian Air Force. The soldier’s identity has not yet been disclosed, but it is known that this military unit is directly involved in the war against Ukraine. The incident was reported by the website “VChK-OGPU”, which is linked to the Russian Federation’s special services.

The incident occurred in the Slavyanka neighborhood—an area originally built to house military personnel.

According to the publication, the lieutenant colonel and his wife got into the car, and as it began to move, an explosion occurred—the explosive device had been planted under the car’s undercarriage near the driver’s seat. After the detonation, the car coasted another 20 meters or so.

As a result of the explosion, the soldier was killed instantly, and his wife sustained injuries to her legs. According to available information, the woman was hospitalized in a state of shock.

Russian authorities and the media under their control have not yet disclosed either the identity or the rank of the deceased soldier.

As a reminder, the 6th Army of the Russian Aerospace Forces has been participating in combat operations against Ukraine since the early days of the full-scale invasion in 2022. This operational formation is responsible for air cover and air defense in Russia’s northwestern region. It is the aircraft of this formation that regularly strike Ukrainian cities with guided and unguided bombs (KAB and FAB), as well as provide airspace coverage.
