Another Country Has Stopped Using Russian Fuel

She called for increased pressure on the Kremlin.

The Swedish authorities have no intention of changing their position and advocate increasing pressure on Russia and providing additional aid to Ukraine.

A corresponding statement was made by the country’s Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, commenting on the agreement between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin on the supply of Russian diesel fuel.

- Sweden’s position has remained unchanged since February 24, 2022: we will support Ukraine for as long as necessary. Now is the time to increase pressure on Russia and provide greater support to Ukraine. “We regret the U.S. agreement with Russia on diesel fuel supplies, as revenues from energy resources are a vital source of funding for Russia’s war of aggression,” stated the head of the Swedish government.

The prime minister announced that on Monday, the European Union will adopt the largest sanctions package to date against Russia, including measures targeting 1,600 companies in the Russian military-industrial complex.

“This, on the contrary, is a positive step. More countries should also take more active measures against the ‘shadow fleet’ and ultimately use frozen Russian assets for the benefit of Ukraine,” the head of government noted.

He emphasized the need for coordinated action among allies on this issue.

“In all of this, we must maintain close coordination within the EU, as well as with the U.S., the U.K., and other international partners.” Broad political and public support for Ukraine in Sweden is a strength and an advantage in these turbulent times. Sweden stands with Ukraine; Ukraine’s freedom and sovereignty remain our top foreign policy priority,” the prime minister emphasized.
