Drones Are Swarming Toward Moscow: Thick Smoke Has Blanketed The Outskirts Of The Russian Capital

Early in the morning on July 28, the Moscow Region of the Russian Federation came under attack by drones. Online reports mention a “drone strike” and heavy smoke near Moscow, and the mayor of the Russian capital Sergei Sobyanin has confirmed a drone attack on the city, according to “Focus”.

The attack caused a fire and thick black smoke to rise in the city of Chekhov, located about 55 kilometers from Moscow. The Wildberries logistics center caught fire as a result of the drone attack. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine citing OSINT sources.

According to preliminary data from analysts at the Exilenova+ channel, one of the drones that attacked Chekhov may have struck a chimney located on the grounds of a local enterprise. The impact caused a fire and heavy smoke.

“A drone crashed/got stuck in a pipe on the grounds of the Hydrostalkonstruktsiya CJSC plant in Chekhov, but new ones continue to fly,” analysts write.

It is worth noting that the plant specializes in the production of metal structures. As of this publication, there have been no official confirmations or comments regarding a possible UAV “incursion” into the plant’s territory.

In addition to Chekhov, Moscow was also likely targeted by the drone attack last night. Russian monitoring channels reported drones moving toward the capital, and Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin has already confirmed the attack on the city.

At first, the mayor wrote that Russian air defenses had allegedly destroyed at least 12 drones flying toward Moscow. A few minutes later, he reported that air defense had “shot down” another 10 drones heading toward the city, followed by 11 more UAVs.

“Emergency response specialists are working at the crash site,” Sobyanin noted, without providing further details.

Meanwhile, Rosaviatsiya has imposed restrictions on aircraft landings and takeoffs at Moscow’s Domodedovo, Vnukovo, and Zhukovsky.
