A former British prime minister explained who could put pressure on Putin.
Until the West makes its position on Ukraine clear to Vladimir Putin, the Russian dictator will not end the war. This was stated by former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson in an interview with Sky News.
“We need to put an end to this. One of the reasons it hasn’t ended yet is that Putin doesn’t really know what we, the West, want. As long as Putin believes he has a chance to maintain uncertainty regarding Ukraine, he will continue to attack,” Johnson said.
He also emphasized that one way to end the war is to admit Ukraine into NATO.
“Washington, London, Paris—everywhere—must once again declare what used to be official policy, namely: Ukraine must join NATO,” the politician stated.
Johnson also believes that it is precisely U.S. President Donald Trump who is capable of putting serious pressure on Putin and forcing him to stop.
“Trump may turn out to be exactly the person who can really put pressure on Putin and see it through to the end. And there is no doubt that when it comes to foreign policy initiatives, this man is ready to take quite tough measures,” he noted, adding that Trump became the first U.S. president to use force against Iran.
