Britain Has Appointed A New Foreign Minister

The position was filled by the former energy minister.

The new British Prime Minister Andy Burnham has appointed former Energy Secretary Ed Miliband as the country’s Foreign Secretary. This was announced by the Prime Minister’s Office on social media platform X.

“Ed Miliband has been appointed Foreign Secretary,” the post reads.

Since September 2025, the Foreign Office has been led by Yvette Cooper.

Former UK Defense Secretary John Healy has been appointed Chancellor of the Exchequer.

On July 20, Andy Burnham took office as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom after receiving a mandate from King Charles III to form a government.

On June 22, Keir Starmer announced that he would step down as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. He stated that he had decided to step down because the Labour Party’s parliamentary caucus, which he leads, had made it clear that it did not consider him the best candidate for the next general election, and he agreed with that decision.

Since September 2022, the United Kingdom has had four prime ministers. Following Boris Johnson’s resignation, the position was held successively by Liz Truss, Rishi Sunak, and Keir Starmer.
