Azerbaijan Wants To Participate In NATO Operations

To “promote the preservation of international peace.”

Azerbaijan is currently exploring opportunities for its military to participate in various operations conducted by the UN and NATO with the aim of contributing to the preservation of international peace, said the country’s Minister of Defense Zakir Hasanov.

“Turbulent geopolitical developments and conflicts in various regions demonstrate that the role of peacekeepers is growing. As a member of the international community and the UN, Azerbaijan supports all initiatives aimed at maintaining peace and global security. We are currently exploring opportunities for the Azerbaijani army to participate in various operations conducted by the UN and NATO to help maintain international peace,” said Hasanov, as quoted by the Report agency.

He noted that since 1999, more than 3,000 servicemen from the Azerbaijani Armed Forces have participated in peacekeeping operations in various regions of the world.

The minister emphasized that the activities of Azerbaijani peacekeepers have consistently been highly praised by the command, various countries, and international organizations.

The agency also quoted Major General Elchin Abdullayev, head of the Ministry of Defense’s Department of International Military Cooperation, who stated that Azerbaijani military personnel are currently carrying out a peacekeeping mission in South Sudan.
