The senator was a close ally of the U.S. president.

U.S. President Donald Trump reacted to the death of influential Republican Senator and his ally Lindsey Graham.

“Senator Lindsey Graham, one of the greatest people and senators I have ever known, has passed away! He always worked hard and was a true American patriot. We will miss Lindsey very much!!!” — Trump wrote on his social media platform X, promising to provide details later.

Lindsey Graham died on the evening of July 11 after suddenly falling ill, his office said. NBC News reported that on Saturday evening, emergency responders were called to Graham’s home on Capitol Hill following a heart attack.

On July 10, 71-year-old Senator Graham was visiting Ukraine and met with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. He was a consistent supporter of Ukraine.

Lindsey Graham briefly sought the Republican presidential nomination in 2015 and was a critic of Trump, but later became his close political ally and one of his most ardent supporters, according to CNN.

Trump recently called him an outstanding person and noted that Graham “has been by his side for a long time” and helped him “more than anyone else in the Senate.”

Recently, Lindsey Graham has been promoting a bill on sanctions against Russia, and on July 10, he stated that senators had reached an agreement with the White House on a new version of the bill.
