According to information from Belarusian Railway Workers’ Community, an emergency involving rolling stock was reported at the Lida railway station. The incident occurred on June 8, 2026, at 9:07 p.m. during shunting operations on the hump yard.

The report notes that the incident is officially classified by the Belarusian Railways (BZhD) as a collision between railway rolling stock during shunting operations, resulting in a violation of traffic safety and transportation operation regulations.

Causes of the incident

According to the source, shortly before the accident, at 8:00 p.m., a scheduled shift change took place at the station. The incident was caused by gross violations of job instructions by the staff:

The marshal on duty at the marshalling yard, after taking over her shift, failed to verify the correct positioning of the railcars and did not ensure that the tracks were clear for shunting.

The speed controller also neglected his duty to check the actual track occupancy before beginning the dispersal.

As a result of this negligence, the second car to be uncoupled—open car No. 60806676, which was heading for Track No. 11—collided with car No. 64487648, which was in the switch area at that moment. As a result of the collision, both cars sustained mechanical damage, but no wheel sets derailed.

Attempt to Cover Up the Incident

According to the authors of the article, the management of the Lida station, together with representatives of the relevant departments of the Belarusian Railway, attempted to conceal the fact of the accident. By prior agreement, the incident was not included in official reports, its consequences were not documented in accordance with established procedures, and attempts were made to shield the incident itself from an internal investigation.
