Sky News has revealed the details.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is attempting, during the G7 summit, to secure further support from the United States and to convince U.S. President Donald Trumpto become more actively involved in resolving the war with Russia. Kyiv has gained new leverage for this thanks to the situation on the front lines and the problems facing the Russian economy, writes Sky News.

The issue of Ukraine became one of the main topics of the G7 summit. Zelenskyy arrived in Evian, France, where he held a series of meetings with Western leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

Analysts note that the Ukrainian side hopes to convince Trump that Ukraine is capable of achieving success on the battlefield and gradually regaining the initiative in the war. At the same time, the difficulties facing the Russian economy—which is under pressure from sanctions and military spending—could serve as an additional argument.

According to analysts, Trump has traditionally been inclined to support those he considers strong players. That is precisely why a demonstration of Ukraine’s military successes could influence the White House’s future stance on the war.

Europe Aims to Stay at the Negotiating Table

European leaders are also closely monitoring possible changes in U.S. policy. Officials in Brussels emphasize that the European Union is currently Ukraine’s largest financial donor, covering a significant portion of its budgetary needs and providing military aid.

Following repeated criticism from Trump regarding Europe’s insufficient involvement in supporting Kyiv, the EU believes it has done enough at this point to claim a key role in any future negotiations to end the war.

However, observers warn that Trump is known for his desire to personally control diplomatic processes. Therefore, European partners will likely still have to persuade Washington to involve them in potential peace talks with Russia.
