The Tu-22M3 is a long-range supersonic missile-carrying bomber that Russia uses, among other things, to strike Ukraine with X-22 and X-32 missiles. Such aircraft are part of Russia’s long-range aviation.
The loss of each such aircraft is a significant blow to Russia, as the Tu-22M3 fleet is limited, and following Ukraine’s Operation “Spider’s Web,” Russian strategic aviation has already suffered serious losses.
