Russia Has Lost Most International Air Routes

Even in the USSR there were three times as many.
This summer it will be possible to take direct flights from Russian airports only to 31-32 countries of the world. The reduction of international routes is attributed to sanctions, conflicts and crises in different regions.
This is reported by the Telegram channel "Important Stories".
According to Russian tour operators, in the 1980s the USSR had direct flights to about 80-100 countries.
The ATOR (Association of Tour Operators of Russia) notes that even in the times of the "Iron Curtain" the international route network of the Soviet Union was much wider than the current Russian one.
A part of the directions in the times of the USSR were considered domestic flights, but even taking this into account, the current geography of Russian flights has been significantly reduced.
Flights to unrecognized Abkhazia, Iran, Israel, UAE, Oman, Afghanistan, as well as to CIS and Asian countries are now available from Russian airports.
Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Mongolia, Vietnam, DPRK, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, China, Thailand, Turkey and Serbia are among the available destinations.
At the same time, some routes remain unattractive for tourists. The Russian Association of Tour Operators admits that only about 15 destinations can be in real demand.
It should also be noted that after the sanctions and international restrictions Russia has not been able to restore air communication with Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Algeria, Venezuela and Cuba.
