The new Iranian proposal was handed to the U.S. administration on May 17.
The White House considers Iran's new proposal for a deal with the US insufficient. This was reported by Axios, citing a senior US official and another source.
The new Iranian proposal was handed to the US administration on May 17 through Pakistani intermediaries. It "contains only symbolic improvements" over the previous version, according to the interlocutor. The new version pays more attention to Iran's refusal to develop nuclear weapons. At the same time, specific obligations to enrich uranium or transfer it to the United States are not specified.
"We are really not making much progress.... It's time for the Iranians to make concessions. We need a real, substantive and detailed conversation (about the nuclear program). If that doesn't happen, we will communicate with bombs. It will be a disgrace," the U.S. official said.
A truce has been in effect between the United States and Iran since early April. The sides have exchanged proposals to resolve the conflict, but the talks have stalled. On May 10, US President Donald Trump called Tehran's peace plan unacceptable. According to Fars, Iran sent the US "five confidence-building conditions" for the next round of talks to take place. Washington sent its own five conditions in response.
