2026 could change everything.
The thought of replacing Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is brewing in Russia because of the failure of the war in Ukraine.
One of Russia's opposition leaders Garry Kasparov told RBC-Ukraine in a commentary.
"There is a feeling that something is happening. It is a Russian tradition that a bad war always leads to change. And we are now seeing a situation where very many people both in the elite and ordinary people are beginning to realize that Putin cannot win a war. And when a dictator unleashes a war that he cannot win, according to historical laws, he begins to have big problems," he said.
In Kasparov's opinion, there is a serious feeling that a process has begun which is very likely to lead to catastrophic consequences in the near future if there is no breakthrough.
"Obviously, something is happening. So different evidence: economic, military problems, but it seems to me that the main problem is psychological, it is very important. It lies in the fact that Russian tradition does not forgive a tsar or a dictator for a lost war," the oppositionist said.
The idea that war ends badly is now beginning to enter people's consciousness, he said.
"With the masses we do not understand, but with the elites it is obvious. This is what Craft writes, every day, about the inevitability of Putin's end - and nothing happens..... This means that this idea that Putin must be changed is very important," Kasparov explained.
"There is an idea brewing in the elite that in order to save the regime, Putin must be removed. This is the reflection of the imperial tradition that in order to save the empire, Putin must be removed," the politician added.
He emphasized that 2026 could be a defining year for the formation of a new world order. And it is thanks to Ukraine, which was able not only to withstand but also to turn the tide of the war, that these changes are becoming inevitable.
