Lukashenko Caused A Stir With His Interview With The German Newspaper *Handelsblatt*
Artem Sinitsyn, “Solidarity”

On November 7, the dictator uttered words that were painfully familiar.

“The era of revolutions ended long ago. I am not a supporter of revolutions, and as a historian, I do not want that to happen here again,” Lukashenko said on November 7.

He immediately added that he had kept this holiday “if only because many members of the older generation are still alive, for whom this was and remains a very significant date.”

And we all know these people. More precisely—the most prominent among them, who fits the bill both in terms of age and his outdated views rooted in the Soviet past. The one who still “gives” Belarusians “gifts” (paid for with their own taxes) in the form of new subway stations and nuclear power plants by November 7.

“But we don’t need any more revolutions. Millions of people died in revolutions,” the ruler immediately clarified, clearly still haunted by memories of the popular revolution of 2020.

But, according to “historian” Lukashenko, “not everything was bad after October”: “Thousands of factories were built. But there were also dark chapters.”

That last phrase is painfully reminiscent of his scandalous interview with Markus Zinner from the German newspaper Handelsblatt in November 1995. Let’s compare: “Not everything in Germany associated with the notorious Adolf Hitler was bad.”
