We're talking about the Switchblade 600 drones.
Lithuania has received its first shipment of Switchblade 600 strike drones from the United States. The Lithuanian Ministry of Defense announced this on October 7 on social media platform X, noting that the new system expands the country’s capabilities to strike armored targets with high precision at long ranges.
The contract for the purchase of Switchblade 300 and 600 drones was signed on December 22, 2022; the cost of the government procurement totaled approximately €45 million.
The Switchblade 600 drone can remain airborne for about 40 minutes and has a range of over 40 km. According to Defence Blog, this range can be extended to 90 km with the use of additional relays.
Along with the drones, Lithuania received launchers, control systems, a simulator for training operators, and maintenance tools.
Against the backdrop of these drone deliveries, U.S. President Donald Trump stated on October 5 that he would consider Lithuania’s request to host a U.S. military base on its territory. The day after this statement, the Lithuanian parliament passed an amendment to the Constitution in its first reading that lifts the ban on the deployment of nuclear weapons in the country.
