Three Questions That Will Help You Become Happier

Three Questions That Will Help You Become Happier

Test yourself.

Interacting with others, trusting those around us, and performing acts of kindness are linked to higher life satisfaction, and this link may be stronger than the link to the pursuit of wealth and career success. This is the conclusion reached by researchers who compiled the 2025 World Happiness Report based on data from 147 countries, according to FastCompany.

The study suggests testing yourself with three questions. How often do you spend time with other people rather than alone? Do you expect kindness and honesty from strangers? Do you often help those around you, volunteer, or donate money to charity?

One way to increase life satisfaction is to share meals with others more often. Research has shown that shared lunches and dinners are associated with a stronger sense of happiness. While people often expect to feel better alone than in company, they actually feel happier after socializing than they had anticipated.

Another important factor is trust. Study participants who were more likely to expect that a wallet found on the street would be returned to its owner with the money inside generally rated their lives more highly. This does not mean that one should trust strangers unconditionally, but constant suspicion can hinder social interaction.

Finally, helping others brings greater satisfaction when a person acts of their own free will and sees the results of their efforts. “Both those who help and those who receive help feel happier when the act of caring is based on a sincere connection, free choice, and a clear positive outcome,” the researchers write.
