Belarusians and Russians are discussing on the social media platform Threads the events that took place in Serbia, where Lukashenko and Putin’s friend Aleksandar Vučić lost the election.

“We’ve had a change in government here. What about you?” wrote a Russian-speaking resident of Belgrade, addressing her compatriots.

The post garnered hundreds of comments, most of which were written by Belarusians and Russians. The website Charter97.org quotes some of them:

— Democracy works, and the people really can decide what kind of future they want!

— Belgrade yesterday was very reminiscent of Minsk in 2020; things like that aren’t forgotten. Soon we’ll be writing that Minsk resembles Belgrade in 2026.

— It’ll happen here soon, too.

— We live on the same continent, after all. I wish this virus would reach us sooner.
