Strike On Borisoglebsk: Russia's Losses May Not Be Limited To The Su-34M

The equipment and maintenance staff could have been affected.

The successful downing of six Su-34M bombers at the Russian military airfield “Borisoglebsk” put an entire aviation group out of action at once, since the enemy typically deploys three such aircraft simultaneously. This was reported on the air by “Apostrophe” in response to a question about the scale of the operation’s results, including its impact on ground infrastructure.

According to him, ground-based facilities can also be damaged during such a strike—it depends on how far they were from the aircraft’s location. There is information that certain results have also been achieved in this regard, the spokesperson noted.

“This may include ammunition, fuel, and, in principle, other types of equipment and the personnel who maintain these aircraft. Because behind every aircraft, behind every military pilot—in this case, a criminal pilot—there is an entire team of people, technicians who maintain this killing machine. Therefore, they are just as legitimate targets as the aircraft itself,” said Pletenchuk.

He noted that this involves an entire aviation unit—for example, when approaching the coast from the Black Sea, the Russians deploy an average of three aircraft. In other words, this would result in a significant operational impact.

He also explained what capabilities Russia has to defend against “Neptunes.” This depends, for example, on the level of situational awareness—on how quickly the enemy receives information before deploying the appropriate weapons, and so on.

“An operation like this (such as striking an airfield in Russia—UNIAN) is always difficult to plan. This is because the distance these weapons must travel is quite great. And the Russians are taking advantage of precisely that. Of course, intelligence plays one of the key roles here, not just the units deploying the weapons. Therefore, this is always a comprehensive effort, and we will, of course, carry out such strikes whenever possible,” the press secretary explained.

In fact, according to him, the use of “Neptunes” is a systematic operation that is already underway. These are not our first successes, particularly with these missiles. Previously, strikes were carried out against a plant that was modernizing AEW&C (airborne early warning and control) aircraft, as well as against deployment sites for operational-tactical-level drones, and so on. In other words, the military official added, this is part of a systematic effort by the Ukrainian Navy, which the enemy is well aware of.

“The system performs a wide range of tasks. So, for the Russians, this is nothing new,” Pletenchuk emphasized.
