WSJ: Zelenskyy Sets A Condition For A Moratorium On Strikes Against Russian Oil Refineries

U.S. senators proposed one version of the agreement to Ukraine.

Republican U.S. Senators Roger Wicker and Kevin Cramer have proposed that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy temporarily suspend strikes on Russian energy facilities, and in exchange, the U.S. will expand the coverage area of the Ukrainian Starlink satellite network by approximately 300 kilometers into Russian territory. According to The Wall Street Journal, this took place last Friday during a visit by senators to Kyiv.

As noted in the publication, this would help Ukraine neutralize Russian missile launchers and thereby weaken Russian strikes.

“We were told that Zelenskyy stated he would agree to this proposal and commit to refraining from bombing energy facilities in Russia for 100 days as part of such an agreement,” the journalists write.

According to their sources, Zelenskyy also stated that he is willing to exchange a suspension of strikes on oil refineries for a larger number of Patriot missiles. However, they say, the ability to take out the archer—rather than simply allowing him to fire arrows—is even better.
