A Minsk Resident Exposed The “Sosedi” Store For Deceiving Customers

New stickers are placed over the expired ones.

A Minsk resident exposed the “Sosedi” store, located at 9a Yanki Mavra Street, for deceiving customers. New stickers are being placed over expired ones on food products. She posted the photo on the social media platform Threads.

“Sosedi,” she asked the chain’s management, “since when has double labeling been considered normal?” She approached a salesperson in the meat department, showed them the issue, and was told in response: “That’s not my department—I handle meat. Look for it in the main sales area.” She didn’t even take the cheese. “Sosedi,” 9a Yanki Mavra Street, October 15.”

According to commenters who have worked in the retail sector, this practice is widespread almost everywhere in Belarus.

“Everything that’s sliced and packaged in the store gets relabeled if it doesn’t sell in time. I’m speaking as a former employee of a major chain,” wrote one of them.

“They slice the entire wheel of cheese at once. Then they package it. And then they stamp the required quantity. If something doesn’t sell, they reprint the label. You’re almost 100% certain you’ll never buy cheese wrapped in cellophane on the day it’s sliced. Buy it in its original factory packaging,” advised one of the commenters.
