Germany Has Demanded That The U.S. Lift The Restrictions On Starlink In Ukraine

Berlin is paying for the Starshield communications system for the Ukrainian military.

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul criticized restrictions on Starlink satellite communications in Ukraine, a service his country also pays for.

This was reported by ntv.

“These restrictions must be lifted,” Wadepul said.

He noted that some of the Starlink equipment in Ukraine is funded by Germany.

“And that is why we, of course, insist that it be operational if we are paying for it. Ukraine must continue to receive full support,” the German minister emphasized.

Wadeful added that “we don’t have the full picture” regarding the reasons for the restrictions on Starlink’s operations.

According to him, Germany has questions for the U.S. on this matter, “which we will clarify.”

As a reminder, in recent days, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have faced restrictions on Starlink’s operations. In particular, the Ukrainian military was unable to operate drones at speeds exceeding 160 km/h.

According to media reports, the order to restrict the satellite system used by Ukraine for battlefield communications and drone control came from the White House.

Germany pays for the Starshield service for the Ukrainian military; the contract is valid through April 2027. Kyiv is asking for the system to be restored to full operation without speed restrictions.

On October 15, the situation regarding restrictions on Starshield (the military version of Starlink) in Ukraine improved. However, restrictions remain in place.
