Such cruelty will not go unanswered.

A Russian air bomb struck two passenger buses in Kramatorsk, Donetsk Oblast. According to local authorities, 33 people were killed and another 18 were injured. Amid intensifying attacks, authorities have suspended public transportation in Kramatorsk and neighboring Slavyansk, reports The National Security Journal.

The head of the Donetsk Regional Military Administration, Vadym Filashkin, stated that the strike hit civilian vehicles and ordered the suspension of bus service due to a “sharp deterioration in the security situation.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy promised that the attack would not go unanswered. Ukrainian Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets accused Russia of systematically destroying Kramatorsk and intimidating civilians.

Kramatorsk and Sloviansk are part of the so-called “belt of fortresses”—a key section of Ukraine’s defenses in the Donbas. Russian troops are advancing toward these cities, which are regularly subjected to shelling. According to an author at the National Security Journal, strikes on civilian infrastructure may be intended to force the population to flee the region.
The attack occurred following a large-scale Russian shelling of Ukraine. According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia launched 130 drones and 48 cruise missiles, as well as ballistic missiles. In Pryluky, a strike on a residential building claimed the lives of 22 people, including five children. Kyiv is also facing intensified attacks and disruptions to electricity and water supplies.
At the same time, Ukraine is experiencing an acute shortage of interceptor missiles for its air defense systems, including the Patriot system. Zelenskyy has once again asked Western partners to provide additional air defense capabilities.

“People were riding buses to work, to the market, or to visit relatives,” the author of the article emphasizes, highlighting the toll that Russian strikes are taking on the civilian population.
