Petraeus: Russia Cannot Afford A Second Front

The former CIA director gave compelling examples.

Russia could not help Assad in 2024 in Syria, unlike in previous years, because of its limited forces and inability to open a second front.

This was stated by former CIA director David Petraeus in an interview with the German newspaper Welt.

"Russia cannot afford a second front. Russia didn't even have the strength to help Armenia or Bashar al-Assad. Think about it: the last time Bashar al-Assad was under pressure in Syria, the Russian Air Force rushed to his aid with special forces along with Lebanon's Hezbollah and Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps," Petraeus noted.

But already in 2024, the Russians and Hezbollah have not come to his aid due to lack of forces.
