A natural gas pipeline exploded in Turkey's Hatay province after an earthquake. The earthquake also destroyed the historic Gaziantep Castle in southern Turkey.

There were at least three earthquakes in Turkey during the night of February 6. Each had a magnitude of more than 6, reports Channel 24.

"As a result of the earthquake, which affected 10 towns in the (province of) Kahramanmaraş, there was an explosion and fire at a gas pipeline in the village of Topbogazi in Kirihan district of Hatay," Hürriyet wrote.

Therefore, natural gas supplies to Gaziantep, Hatay and Kahramanmarash provinces and Pazardzhik, Narly, Besni, Gelbashi, Nurdagi, Islahiye, Reyhan, Kirihan and Hassa districts were cut off.

According to Topbogazi village head Bilal Alpogan, there was an explosion that caused the earthquake, and fires broke out at two different locations. The first was 200 metres below the village, the second 3 kilometres away.

Please note: The Turkish province of Hatay is located approximately 149 kilometres from Kahramanmarash, where a 7.4 magnitude earthquake occurred at 04:17 on February 6. The quake destroyed several buildings in the centre and districts of Hatay, with many damaged.
