Roman Svitan: Ukrainian Drones Will Surprise You With ‘Machine Vision’
ROMAN SVITAN

What surprises are prepared by the Ukrainian forces?

Ukrainian drones do wonders. Every week we see successful UAV attacks on facilities in Russia. How many types of drones are in service with the Ukrainian army? What operations can they perform?

Charter97.org talked with Colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, pilot-instructor Roman Svitan about this and more:

– We see more and more strikes by Ukrainian drones on oil depots in the Smolensk region of the Russian Federation. The targets are used as transhipment points by Belarusian refineries. Is Ukraine trying to prevent the export of petroleum products from Belarus to the Russian Federation?

– Positive. In order not to destroy the Belarusian Naftan and the Mozyr refinery, it was decided to destroy the transhipment bases. This is one of the options that does not 100% guarantee the fulfillment of the task, since then they can ship petroleum products directly: three thousand tons per train. But that's one option.

— Every week we see effective strikes by Ukrainian drones, but the Russians cannot boast of successful UAV strikes. "Shaheds" have been hit more and more often lately. Why are Russians so bad at drones?

— The fact is that they are doing well with their missiles. Therefore, they simply do not need airplane-type drones (wingspan from 6 meters), as in Ukraine. The Russians have 50-kilogram Shaheds.

The Ukrainian forces can, with the help of mobile groups and anti-aircraft missile systems, at the expense of a smaller territory of the country, destroy all enemy Shaheds, which they do, knocking down the majority.

The Russians have missiles that are much more powerful than any drone strike at some Ukrainian targets. The missile has a warhead of 500 to 1000 kilograms, and the drone has 50-70 kilograms. They just don't need this mechanism.

– How many different types of UAVs can Ukraine use today?

– There are already several dozen of them. Only drones of different levels are about two dozen. Plus a dozen operational and strategic UAVs with a long range.
