Poland Raises Minimum Wage To EUR 743 In 2023

Poland has one of the lowest levels of unemployment in the EU.

On September 13, the Polish government adopted a resolution on raising the minimum wage and the minimum hourly rate in 2023, Polish Radio reports.

From January 1, 2023, the minimum wage, without tax deduction, will be at least PLN 3490 (about EUR 743), and the hourly rate - at least PLN 22.80 (about EUR 4.85).

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki stressed that the unemployment rate is low in Poland:

“Actually, we have a record low unemployment rate in the history of the 3rd Polish Republic and rank second in the EU. We have proved that the minimum wage can grow quickly and in the shortest possible time. In recent years there has been a kind of revolution of dignity. We appreciate the work of the Poles and will never agree to the low salaries that we observed during previous administrations."

For his part, Minister of Family and Social Policy Marlena Maląg expressed confidence that the increase in wages will have a positive impact on households' budgets during the period of inflation and growth in the cost of life:

“We must support those who receive a minimum wage because now it’s not an easy time. People with minimum wage incomes should, according to the Polish constitution, be surrounded by guardianship. Thus, more than 3 million people will feel supported by the increase in the minimum wage.”

Recall that the minimum wage in Poland in 2022, before tax, is PLN 3,010 (about EUR 640), while the minimum hourly rate is PLN 19.70 (about EUR 4.20).
