Activists Concerned About Situation With BelNPP

The problem of the nuclear power plant has been discussed in Smarhon.

Activists of the Astravets Nuclear Power Plant is a Crime campaign held a meeting with human rights activists, environmentalists and representatives of some social movements and parties in Smarhon on July 20. The event was attended by representatives of 5 districts of the region, near which the Belarusian NPP is being built: Smarhon, Astravets, Pastavy, Vileika and Maladzechna districts, the spring96.org website reports.

The expert of the NGO Ecodom informed the audience about the current situation around the construction of such a dangerous facility, about stress tests, possible dangers and threats.

Representatives of the parties expressed the opinion that it is necessary to use the future election campaign to the full for carrying out information activities among the population on the issues of the Belarusian NPP construction.

It was also decided to improve and intensify the monitoring of the radiation background in the region and to prepare a new petition against the launch of the NPP, as, according to experts, it will cost the state less than if to put it into operation.
