A woman from Minsk elenagechik wrote on Threads that public clinics are refusing to issue medical certificates to patients showing symptoms of the virus that doctors doctors had warned about a few days ago.

“A student’s boyfriend has all the symptoms of the virus everyone’s talking about online. ” she writes. “He has a sore throat, a stuffy nose, terrible headaches, and excruciating body aches, along with general weakness, but no fever and his blood tests are normal.

The doctors at the clinic flatly refuse to issue a sick note. Private medical centers aren’t authorized to issue them. In Belarus, a private medical center will issue a sick note if you have an annual contract with them or are covered by insurance

I’ll be absent from work today because I was completely unable to leave the house, and tomorrow I’ll have to go in and infect the whole institute.

“Well, if it were paid sick leave, that’d be one thing. We just needed a doctor’s note.”

Social media users advised contacting the clinic director in such cases. The website Charter97.org lists some comments:

- See another doctor, or better yet, the clinic director.

- Call a doctor to your home. The absence of a fever does not confirm that you haven’t gotten sick. Two years ago, I had pneumonia without a fever—just a severe dry cough and body aches.

- I just called “Kravira”—they said they only issue sick leave with insurance.

- The clinical protocol for diagnosis and treatment is in effect.
