Venezuela's acting president Delcy Rodriguez called the country free. She rejected Trump's proposal to join the United States as the 51st state.

Rodriguez called such an idea totally unacceptable. She emphasized the sovereignty of her state.
The official made her speech in The Hague, where she was on the final day of hearings. The court is hearing a territorial dispute between Venezuela and Guyana. At issue is the Essequibo region, which is extremely rich in natural resources.
"We will continue to defend our integrity, our sovereignty, our independence, our history," Rodriguez said, adding that Venezuela is "not a colony, but a free country."

The scandal erupted after the 47th US president's interview for Fox News television. Trump's intentions were revealed by Fox News co-host John Roberts.
He posted a message on social media following the conversation. Trump said he was "seriously considering making Venezuela the 51st state of the United States."
The official White House has so far remained silent, and other Trump administration officials also provided no comment when asked by reporters.
