Orban Made A Statement On Hungary's Veto In The EU

Budapest refuses to be blackmailed.

Hungary's new Foreign Minister Anita Orban said that Budapest no longer intends to use the veto right in the European Union as an instrument of political pressure and will work to restore trust on the part of EU and NATO partners.

She said this on May 11 before a meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council, writes "European Truth".

Orban said Hungary has too often been a factor hindering decision-making in Europe.

"We used the veto not as a last resort, but for political PR," the minister admitted.

Talking about Budapest's position on Ukraine, Orbán said that Hungary would support Kiev's further progress towards EU membership solely on the basis of its own national interests.

She also stressed that Hungary would continue to push for the expansion of the rights of the Hungarian national minority in Ukraine.
