Hundreds of passengers were stuck at Sochi airport due to flight cancelations and delays caused by Ukrainian drone attacks on the Krasnodar region on April 5-6. As Baza writes, large queues formed in the building, people were sleeping on the floor. Restrictions on air travel due to drones in the region were in effect from 14:00 Sunday to 4:00 Monday. In Sochi, 115 flights were affected by the problems. The airports of Krasnodar and Gelendzhik also stopped the reception and dispatch of airplanes. Some passengers complained that they have been waiting for departure for 16 hours. Not all airlines are settling people in hotels.
According to "Fontanka", almost 200 flights were delayed overnight at Sochi and Krasnodar airports after the threat of a UAV attack. Another 51 were canceled. Flights from St. Petersburg to the Krasnodar region were diverted to neighboring regions.
So, passengers flying to Sochi, said that their plane landed in Beslan. Another flight was diverted to Grozny. Another plane had to land at an alternate airfield in Saransk instead of Sochi. The Defense Ministry reported that 148 Ukrainian drones were shot down over Russian regions, including Krasnodar Krai, on the evening of April 5, and 50 the following night. Sochi Mayor Andrey Proshunin reported that the threat of UAV attacks was announced several times in the city on Sunday. The press service of the local airport warned that it would take two days to stabilize the schedule: during that time, airlines could also reschedule, cancel or combine flights.
