Co-founder and chief designer of defense company Fire Point Denis Shtilerman said that Ukrainian engineers are working on a new FP-9 ballistic missile with a range of up to 800 kilometers. It is potentially capable of hitting targets in Moscow.
Shtilerman said this in an interview with Army TV, New Voice reports.
He noted that the key feature of the missile should be its high speed when hitting a target, which makes it difficult for air defenses to intercept.
"The FP-9 will easily hit targets in Moscow because it has a very high speed of arrival at the target. For example, the Iskander now has about 800 meters per second, and we will have more than a thousand," Stilerman said.
He stressed that such a speed allows it to overcome the air defense system much more effectively. According to the developer, it is ballistic missiles that can change the nature of strikes on targets deep inside the Russian Federation.
Cruise missiles and UAVs, despite regular attacks, are not always able to cause significant damage to objects in areas with dense air defense cover, Stilerman explained.
"Cruise missiles and drones cannot hit anything significant in Moscow now. There is a dense ring of air defense there," he said.
The FP-9 missile is scheduled to be tested in early summer.
Fire Point announced the development of its own FP-7 and FP-9 ballistic missiles in early September 2025 at an exhibition in Poland. In November, the company said it plans to complete ballistic missile tests in the first half of 2026.
