The German Chancellor showed why the front line should not move westward.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz showed the US leader on a map during his meeting with Donald Trump why the front line in Ukraine should not be moved further west.

He said this in an interview with ARD.

The chancellor said he reviewed a map of Ukraine with Trump.

"And I think it was important. I made it clear to him once again: the front line that Ukraine now holds must remain and cannot be pushed further west in favor of Russia, to the detriment of Ukraine," Merz stressed.

He noted that strong defensive lines have been created on the line.

The chancellor emphasized that if this front line falls, "the highway to Kiev will be open," which would be unacceptable not only for Ukraine but also for Europeans.

He also stressed the importance of preserving Ukraine's access to the Black Sea, drawing attention to the importance of Odessa as Ukraine's gateway to the Black Sea.

"This is the part that will continue to give Ukraine access to the Black Sea in the future. And this must also remain," the chancellor added.

The German chancellor said the atmosphere at the meeting with the US president was generally good.
