Details Of The Fateful Conversation Between Trump And Netanyahu That Kick-started The War With Iran Have Been Revealed
Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu

One phone call was a verdict on the top of the Iranian regime.

The decision to launch an operation against Iran was made by US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu during a phone call on February 23.

It was reported by Axios.

The publication's sources said that during the call, Netanyahu told Trump about a meeting between Iran's supreme leader and his top advisers in Tehran that was to take place on the morning of Feb. 28.

This meant an opportunity for the U.S. and Israel to eliminate the top Iranian government in one blow. The data that Netanyahu provided was later confirmed by the CIA.

The strike had been planned earlier

The publication writes that the US and Israel studied the possibility of striking a week earlier, but decided to postpone it for intelligence and operational reasons, particularly unfavorable weather conditions.

U.S. officials said Trump made a "deliberate decision" not to focus on Iran in his annual speech to Congress. The move was made to avoid spooking the ayatollah and driving him underground before a strike could be launched.

In addition, US presidential envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Whitkoff called from Geneva after hours of talks with the Iranians and said diplomacy with Tehran had failed.

So, Axios summarizes, Trump was convinced of the reliability of the intelligence information and the failure of diplomatic efforts, so he gave the final order for the attack at 3:38 p.m. ET on Friday.

Reminder, the joint U.S.-Israeli operation against Iran began on the morning of Feb. 28. The US and Israeli military launched a series of strikes on Iranian territory.
