Media reports that on the morning of March 4, the Iranian frigate IRIS Dena gave a distress signal in Sri Lankan territorial waters near the city of Galle. The Republic's Navy is conducting a rescue operation at the scene.

The Sri Lankan authorities earlier reported that at least 30 crew members of the sinking frigate were rescued - they were taken to medical facilities in Galle.
