Ramzan Kadyrov

And it's not his son.

The main candidate to replace the head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov has become the prime minister of the Russian republic Magomed Daudov, who is known for cruelty in carrying out secret assignments. The Telegram channel "We can explain" wrote about this on March 16, citing sources close to the Chechen authorities.

A representative of the Chechen opposition organization NIYSO, which has insiders in Grozny, said that after the accident with Kadyrov's son Adam, Daudov's path to power is practically open.

The opposition claims that Russian security agencies consider him a more effective manager than many members of Kadyrov's entourage. Unlike the power system, which is built on family ties and personal loyalty, Daudov, they say, has shown an ability to act outside of clan obligations.

The NIYSO says that over the years Daudov has formed his own network of supporters in the security services and authorities of the republic. According to their version, the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) has long considered him as a potential successor to Kadyrov, but this was hindered by Russian President Vladimir Putin's personal support for the Chechen leader.

Opposition activists also suggest that if Daudov comes to power, he may launch a large-scale "mop-up" within the elite and get rid of people associated with the Kadyrov clan to form his own system of influence.

One of the most high-profile episodes of his biography was in 2019, when Daudov publicly declared a blood feud against opposition blogger Tumso Abdurakhmanov. A year later, the blogger was attacked in Sweden, the court later sentenced the two participants in the attack to 8-10 years in prison.
